my work exists at the intersection of the moving and still image. i am as influenced by cinematography as i am by photography, and both forms come into play regardless of which i am doing.

i shoot almost exclusively on medium format color reversal (slide) film, with a preference for discontinued/expired stocks. i believe as a shooting format, film is at its most interesting when pushed to the outer edges of its limitations - extremes of under/overexposure, under/overdevelopment, when it’s far past its shelf life. the textures and shifts in color and grain that result from such extremity bring forth the materiality of the medium and all of its organic/chemical assemblage (silver, gelatin, polyester, dyes, etc.).

although i have an emphasis on making visible the chemical nature of film, i generally center human subjects in my work, and i try to sculpt the textures of the film around them - their features, their emotions and ideals, so on, with the intent of representing them in a way that is wholly unique to the medium. i often think of capturing subjects in such a manner as a method of understanding - not just the person being photographed, but why I am taking the picture itself, and in a way that goes beyond language.

most of my photography has alternated between friends/acquaintances and public figures representative of something i feel strongly about (both negative and positive). as i shoot more, i hope to expand my subjects - artists I admire, more obviously constructed “scenes” with an overt political bend, so on.

my rates are entirely negotiable and i often work in-kind. this is not a business for me - creative collaboration and artistic statement is much more important than profit. as a rule of thumb, my only fee for smaller shoots is to cover film development costs ($12-20 per roll), but even that is subject to waiving. if you are looking for a bigger shoot, or something with video/footage, contact me and we can work something out.
